Welcome to my blog! I wear a lot of hats, so to speak, so I’ll introduce myself here.
I have been married to Farmer Phil since 1983 and we live on the family farm that is 114 years old. He raises corn, soybeans, and wheat in variations of no-tilling or minimum tillage. He operates the farrow-to-finish hog operation as well with about 100 sows and 1700 market hogs a year.
We have 2 children. Our daughter (referred to on posts as K) is 26 y/o and a 2009 graduate of The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She now works as the Wedding Gown Coordinator for THE place to have your gown preserved in Chicago. She also sells her hats & other accessories by private order.
Our son (referred to on posts as JP) is 19y/o and a 2009 graduate of our homeschool and earned his AA in 2011. This year has him working full-time for an electronics business that specializes in security equipment. He is choosing a college for next fall.
My hobby, now turned job, is quilting! I love paper-piecing, machine quilting on my domestic machine, and machine embroidery. My favorite machine is my Bernina 200E. But there are other machines in the collection. ;) I am working on finishing my UFOs and projects I’ve already purchased.
I am the new owner of a HQ Fusion long-arm machine for quilting. With this I’m now moving into finishing others’ quilts as well as making quilts, start-to-finish, for non-quilting customers.
I love being online and the computer. I hope you’ll leave a comment and chat with me. :) Thanks for stopping by!!

Hi, your blog is “connected” to mine in some miraculous way! I organize weaving and natural dyeing workshops in Oaxaca, Mexico, in the Zapotec village of Teotitlan del Valle. Perhaps your daughter and her friends might be interested. University students and faculty members have come down for independent studies, too. I am also holding a documentary filmmaking workshop in the village at the end of January 2009. I live on an organic farm in NC, and am an administrator at UNC Chapel Hill. Thanks for sharing your world. -Norma Hawthorne
Hi friend! Thanks so much for your great comment on my blog! I actually have also reversed my FMS, though I’m not sure I’ll ever be fully in remission. Some days I don’t stay in balance, and the FMS is there to remind me to get back on the wagon! But I least I’m not MISERABLE like full-blown FMS can make you.
I also love to quilt! I’m kind of self-taught, so I make a lot of mistakes. I also don’t have a quilting machine, so my quilting is usually either by hand or a little messy on my regular-old sewing machine I got when I was 19. I wish that I lived near you and could just come watch you work!
My kids are younger… 7 and 5. I’m having sooo much fun with them and loving being their mommy. We don’t homeschool but we might in the future. I hope we can keep in touch!
Love, Betsy
Great looking family and a great hobby: quilting. It is so satisfying and so much fun.
Goodness. We have a lot in common.
Hi,
I was checking the internet looking for some information on troubleshooting a Bernina auto thread cutting problem and I read your comment. Did you get it fixed.
The Artista 200 has a magnet just to the right and below the thread take up lever that clamps down on the thread as it is being cut. If you don’t aggressively thread the machine you can miss getting the thread between the magnets and the needle will come unthreaded. It is also possible that the magnetic or stepping motor is failing but it’s probably more of a threading issue.
Just thought you would like to know if you have already solved the problem.
