Spring doesn’t come very early to our parts. But this weekend it was appearing.
The southside daffodils bloomed so I brought in 5 of the 6 blooms for the table so they could be enjoyed. The lilac bushes are just starting to get some leaves and new today, the crab apple tree is showing signs of life.
Yesterday was unseasonably warm with the temps hitting the mid-80’s and plenty of wind blowing in a storm.
Phil took the afternoon to get his onions planted. He loves having fresh onions from the garden (go figure!) and his cousin gets good sets for us every spring.
JP found these two working together —
You can see the rest of the landscape doesn’t look very springy. The grass has just turned in the last few days. Phil counted 107 onions he put out. 🙂
Even with all the hype, we only netted a good light show and less than 5 minutes of rain from the big build-up and storm. I’m OK with that. I like my house standing and the electricity working.
wow! that’s a lot of onions 😉
We were flirting with spring on Sunday – beautiful day… but today it dropped as the day went. But spring is here. Still my daffodils are opening.
What a faithful friend for your hubby! That picture makes me feel peaceful – and contains the promise of a harvest in return for his labor. I like it!
We’ve seen a few signs of spring here, but not many.
So what does your husband do with all those onions?
He likes his onions with brats or on a sandwich or salad. I’m not really prompt on caring for the garden so he’ll lose some to that. heehee! This is the first year he has gotten them out early so hopefully he’ll have better results. Some are labeled as “keepers” so maybe those will last a bit into fall.
Fun to see his helper 🙂 Here they dry onions and store them in left over nylons. There is a ‘French’ onion seller complete with beret, stripey shirt and bicycle on occasion too.
Gardens=work. I’m allergic to garden work. I like the food that comes from the garden, but you won’t catch me in one. I’m glad there are those like your hubby. You are blessed!
the two of them are adorable! I so was missing a yard to work in on Sunday….
