Our April guild meeting was a few weeks ago. I was honored that my friend, Robyn, was here and could go along to the meeting with me. Before the program, we have demos by 2 guild members each month. This month featured a nifty ruler for Flying Geese that I really want to find. The other demo was on hand appliqué. Robyn has a cat so I took photos of the blocks that Beth had out as examples.
This month’s program was by a certified AQS quilt appraiser. I kick myself every time for not having one or a few quilts appraised when the opportunity arises. She showed us wonderful older and newer quilts and gave great information on each one. Some were old and brittle and others were old but still able to be handled. We were given great information on cleaning and caring for our old quilts.
Here is a bit of what we saw:
I had an absolutely amazing time too! Thanks for pictures of the cats! It was just beautiful! The talk was very informative and really got the quilt bug firmly planted in my brain!!! :o)
Such sweet words, Robyn… firmly planted! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Love the one made from silk ties. It IS stunning!
Oh, wow!!
My dad has many old quilts (family ones); I will suggest to him that he get some appraised for insurance. I doubt he’s thought of that! (including some made from silk ties….)
Is it a good thing that I recognize some of those patterns by name???? Are you just shocked, or laughing with glee, or both? LOL!
Tell Robyn to watch out! The bug travels fast once you’ve been bitten! 😉
I’m just smiling ear-to-ear that you are recognizing patterns, Dear Reader!! 🙂
Info for your dad (& others) — in case of fire or other damage, quilts, no matter who made them or how valuable you think they are, are replaced at “blanket” value. So for the cost of a blanket at a big box store, there goes the quilt. Having an appraisal done at least covers a loss.
Oh how fun to see the older quilts – I like the cat blocks they are lovely.
