A variety of visitors outside my kitchen window ~~
While Phil sat on the deck steps putting on his boots, we counted 7 blue jays in the trees around the yard!
I love the gold finches! This was the end of this bag of feed. When I bought new bird food, I also bought a thistle seed sock. That has been covered at times with gold finches.
And then the Grosbeaks arrived! I don’t think I’ve ever seen these but JP has known the names of all our birds. (He used to POUR over bird books when he was in grade school!)
Four grosbeaks at one time!! They finished this feeder load and when I refilled it, the grosbeaks haven’t returned. Not sure about that; I only touched the top screw & cover and the other birds are back. ???
We get lots of purple finches…. so common, that I didn’t get their photo.
This has been my best year for birds at the feeder. I usually hang a pot of flowers here in the summer. I bought a hanging pot yesterday. Now where do I put it?
I would love to see a picture of your purple finches! As far as the hanging basket goes you may just need to buy a new wrought iron hanger for the yard beside the deck… ;o)
I’ll work on getting you a photo, Robyn. As for the new hanger… I’ll ask for my welder to make me one!! 😉
I love birds, though bluejays tend to be bullies. We don’t have goldfinches here, so I enjoyed looking at yours!
Sometimes we get red-winged blackbirds. I never can tell them from any other birds until they fly away and I can see the telltale red.
My husband bought me a really interesting bird feeder a number of years ago. It’s ceramic and looks like a teapot on a plate. I love it, so I don’t use it – I’m afraid the squirrels will knock it down and break it.
We were surprised to have the abundance of blue jays because of their mean temperament. Very odd, we thought!
Your bird feeder sounds sweet! We don’t really have squirrels. For some reason one has been around this spring. However, we have a dog. That LOVES a good hunt! ’nuff said! 😉
We had a finch feeder one year, and the little buggers somehow, managed to get all the birdfeed dumped out on the ground in a big pile. They did it numerous times, so I said, ‘Starve, little birdies, starve!’ I don’t feed birds any more. I guess that’s God’s job. ……I tried!
We get jays here but not the same as your blue jays of course. Love watching all the birds feeding. Squirrel nabbed the last of the fat block this week, need to refill.
