While my sister (M) was on summer vacation from her music students, she and her husband (D) brought our mom here for a visit.

They arrived Monday evening and I had supper in the crock pot. I tend to do that when guests are due after a big drive so it can be ready or wait until they arrive. It was mediocre but the desserts were good!

I offered ideas of activities while they were here or good ol’ vacation rest. On Tuesday M & I went to yoga class together while our mom and D looked at lovely homes and a few little shops. Smartly D found The Cheese Market where I like to shop as well.

After yoga and lunch we took the longer way home so we could visit 2 cemeteries.  If you know my background, you’ll understand how unusual it is that I have relatives from both sides of my family tree buried nearby.

We found the first 2 of my mom’s side that came to our little town and married here. We also visited the grave of my dad’s aunt, our boys’ site, and some of my husband’s family.

After touring my quilting studio, I moved on to the sewing room to do some alterations for mom. But when I said I needed to stop to fix supper, M & D said they’d make it. They both love cooking and presented us with a yummy dinner from my non-chef kitchen. I finished sewing with mom’s company in my room.

After dinner,  they asked to see my FIL’s farm quilt.  I had brought it home after our little visit with them in the afternoon as it was going to a gallery soon. I was very touched by their interest and amazement at my work on this one and other quilts they got to see.

As the artist, I felt the quilt should be used a bit since it usually spends its life in the closet. 🙂  (I’m sitting on the arm of the couch.)

On Wednesday we made plans to meet JP for lunch near his job. Thankfully he clocks out for lunch and doesn’t have a strict timeline. He could make up extra missed time just staying a bit longer in the afternoon.

M & D offered to make supper and my mom and I had some extra time to visit. I showed her a special project I have coming up for myself.

Thursday morning had a slower pace and much continued visiting. Seems all of us women have the same talking amounts & bunny trail gene.  Haha!

We had a simple lunch and they headed to a suburb for more family visits.  Friday included a special drive to see one of my mom’s nieces which she enjoyed!

On Friday night my sister especially chose a hotel near Miss K and God graciously cancelled K’s last appointment, so then all were able to have dinner, conversation, hugs,  and ice cream dessert that evening.

Around the long corner for dessert… a great distance for mom to go at the time without her walker.

It is hard for us to get time with our kids. I am thankful my BIL did the extra driving so my mom could see them both.  After time in the big city, they visited more family and another family cemetery.  My mother enjoys her travel times a lot and she is a real trouper!

My nephew’s wife and children had a long 4-day trip back home this summer and we got to be one night’s stop!  The kids are great little travelers and this was a shorter drive to get to here than their other 8 or 10 hour days of driving.

Supper included fresh corn for those that wanted it and Miss L just melted into her ears of corn as if she was the melted butter!  She was delighted!

After supper, Uncle Farmer farm tour included a combine ride.  Oh the delight!  These children can smile from the inside out!  They made at least 5 loops around the bins and went a bit up the lane and turned around in the yard.  The horn worked ~ much to their giggles!  They got to see pigs and kitties too.

I gave a tour of my studio.  Their momma had never seen such a machine and the littles were thrilled to know that *I* am the one that made their quilts.  When we came back upstairs, it all clicked with Miss L and she wandered the living room noticing all the quilts, understanding a bit more about them and who made them.  🙂  Sweetness!

The next morning came with an early wake-up call as momma quickly packed up the car again.  It was a cool summer morning so I gave snuggles.   🙂     (Two of us don’t do mornings!)

And when the fleece car blanket needed to unwrap and be put in the car, I wrapped one in a quilt.  Golly, all she would have had to do was asked to keep it and I think I would have sent it home with her.  What a lovebug!

I’m pretty sure now they are old enough to not forget visiting with Uncle Farmer and Auntie J~!

Trip to Ohio

While the weather held its breath last week, I made a trip to Ohio to see my parents.  I had wanted to go in the fall but the fall was just not a good time for me to be gone.  This worked great!

My men were settled at home with food to eat & work to do so I left on Wednesday morning.  I had a great day to travel, no construction in Chicago, and not much traffic.  A great trip and I arrived by 4:30 OH time.

We headed out to choir supper that night and I could see a few friends of theirs and some of my cousins there.

I just had a wonderful time and felt great the whole time.  Pleased as punch with my health being back & so much better than ever!!  (Go Guai! 🙂 )

Their house had had a changeover in the preceding 4 weeks.  My brother & his wife moved in mid-December and the paper-signing was on Friday while I was there.  Dad had built the house with a wonderful lower level that opens to the south and B&S have private quarters there.  After they settle, they’ll finish off the former shop area for a family room.  It is really quite nice!!

Mom & Dad have downsized their main floor area and most of B&S’s things have been moved in.  I was so pleased to see it all working out well.  Mom & Dad enjoy the luxury of knowing others are there and show that by sleeping in later now.   Retirement affords one such luxuries! 😉

For my visit, it meant that I had extra visiting time with B&S and that is always delightful!  Their daughter-in-law was over for a painting project 2 nights and we had fun family times all together.

On Thursday, I worked with Sue on her pillow topper quilt project.  After lunch Mom & I played in wedding gowns (oh delight!!) and then I quilted while Mom made dinner.  (My, what vacation for me!! 😉 )

Friday, they all met for the signing while I visited with a childhood friend I had invited over.  I just love we have more frequent connections now with Facebook but the face to face is best of all!

Friday night 3 of the great-grands came for supper with their parents.  I enjoyed reading Lucy’s quiet book with her and later with Sam.

I was thankful to have Bruce’s packing muscles & expertise as I had a few more things to bring home with me.  I headed out Saturday a.m. and arrived mid-afternoon at my nephew’s house in Indiana.  What a treat to spend time with them and have a great break in the trip!

It was so much fun – I don’t even have pictures of 2 more of the greats that I got to see!  I did get hugs & kissed their little cheeks so I cherish that.  I even got a haircut from my niece-in-law’s sister before I headed out.  Yahoo!!!

It was such an easy trip… I think I’ll do this more often.  😀  Let’s hope the men feel the same way….
